Mrs. Wanda "Marcella" Griffis, age 90, of Harriman joyfully entered Heaven's gates on Friday December 20, 2024. Marcella was a pillar of her community and a faithful servant of the Lord. As an active member of Liberty Baptist Church in Kingston, where her nephew Randy Griffis serves as pastor, she lived her life as a radiant example of Christ's love. Her dedication to her family was unparalleled as she and her husband Gene selflessly adopted 10 and fostered numerous children while raising their own with boundless grace, patience, and compassion. Marcella's love for life shown in her many passions, including crafting, traveling, and visiting Dollywood, but her greatest joy came from creating memories with her family. her unwavering faith and infectious joy were a source of inspiration for everyone who knew her, and her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to bless generations to come. Marcella, unapologetically, was herself at all times and was the backbone of her family in her later years.

 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years: Gene Griffis.

Her parents: Charles and Flossie Young.

Two sisters: Joyce Griffis and Lojean Lynch.

Two brothers: Dub Young and Junior Young.

Two daughters: Ann Allen and Kay Griffis.

One granddaughter: Lawanda Culbertson.

One grandson: Len Griffis.

And Multiple in-laws.

 

She is survived by four sons: Leonard Griffis, Mark Griffis, Jordon Griffis, and Joseph Griffis, and nine daughters: Debby Morris, Brandi Griffis, Makayla Reyes, Bobbie Griffis, Faith Griffis, Katherine Brazealle, Priscilla Griffis, Crystal McMinn, and Bethany Trevino; along with their respective spouses and significant others.

Many cherished foster children, as over 140 entered their home. As well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Two sisters: Marita Winters and Brenda Devaney.

Two brothers: Clyde Young and Robert Young.

Six sisters-in-law: Reba Bruce, Margaret Taylor, Glenella Unger, Anita Griffis, Betty Young, and Bonnie Fulks.

One brother-in-law: David Griffis.

A son-in-law: William Allen, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other in-laws who have been a great support for years.

 

In her final days, she was surrounded by the love and care of family and caregivers Gail, Shelia, her daughters Bobbie and Makayla, and her granddaughter Amanda “Red” Griffis, who was her mamaws right hand. Special friends, Libby Williams, Ben and Becky Whittenbarger, Joyce “Crickett” Ashbrook, and her pastor and nephew Randy Griffis. The family extends their deepest gratitude for their devotion and kindness. We take comfort in knowing Marcella is now rejoicing in the presence of her Savior, though her earthly presence will be missed. Her life was a gift to us all, and her memory will live on in our hearts forever.

 

A celebration of her life will be held at Liberty Baptist Church, Monday December 30, 2024. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm with graveside services to follow in Swan Pond Cemetery.
