Mrs. Violet "Vi" Foster, age 76 of Harriman passed away peacefully Friday July 11, 2014 at The Bridge at Rockwood. She was born September 29, 1937 to Carlos and Bessie Freels Whaley. Vi and her family settled back in her hometown in 1976 when her husband Hugh retired from the United States Air Force. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Vi retired from teaching at the Tennessee Technology Center in Harriman in 1994. She was an avid reader and animal lover, particularly her beloved cockatiel Rudy. Vi was a devoted wife, sister, mom and Nana. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years: Hugh Foster. Her parents: Carlos Whaley and Bessie Whaley-Kelly. Her brother: Carlos "Braz" Whaley. Two sisters: Karlene Healy and Clarise Edde Jones. And one nephew: Doug Healy. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Rory and Kelly of Kingston, Bryan and Lana, Kevin and Beverly all of Harriman. Three precious grandchildren: Megan Foster, Clint and wife Missy Foster all of Knoxville, Jessica and husband T.J. Ruppe of Oakdale. One cherished great granddaughter: Ashlyn Ruppe. One sister and brother-in-law: Vera and Paul Scarbrough of Oakdale. And many special nieces, nephews, family members and friends. The family will receive friends Sunday July 13, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Davis Funeral Home, Harriman. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM. Graveside services will be Monday afternoon at 1:00 PM in Roane Memorial Gardens.
