Mr. Michael Gallahar, age 66 of Harriman, went home to be with the Lord Saturday January 19, 2013. He retired from the United States Marine Corps in May of 1980. Michael was also retired from TVA's Kinston Fossil Plant. He was a member of the NAACP, the American Legion Post 232 in Harriman and the Harriman Junction Masonic Lodge #103. Michael also enjoyed working as a concrete finisher and a brick mason. He was a member of Williams Chapel AME Zion Church in Harriman where he loved working in the kitchen preparing meals for the congregation. He was truly a "Good Samaritan" and was a friend to everyone he meet.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Hugh and Daffana Love Gallahar. One daughter: Tabbie Hall. Five sisters: Daffna Gallahar, Phyllis Gallahar, Rachel Howerton, Jewel Welch and Evelyn Thornton. And one brother: Hugh Gallahar.
He is survived by his wife: Sandra Sue Gallahar. Four children: Kimberly Ann Gallahar of Houston, TX, Tanicka Wright of Harriman, Ernest Wright also of Harriman and Payton Smith of Ashville, NC One brother and sister-in-law: Gilbert and Shirley Gallahar of Jeffersonville, IN. One sister: Maxine D'Armond of Tacoma, WA. Six sisters-in-law: Oneita Moore of Rockwood, Veronica Hall of Knoxville, Virginia Hickman and her husband Glenn, Shelia Hall and Debra Hill all of Harriman, Christine Gallahar of Alcoa. Two brothers-in-law: Tony Hall of Knoxville and Terry Hall of Tucson, AZ. One aunt: Helen Roddy of Rockwood. Fourteen grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family, friends and loved ones.
The family will receive friends Thursday January 24, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Davis Funeral Home, Harriman. Funeral services will be Friday morning at 11:00 AM at Williams Chapel AME Zion Church with Pastor R.T. Smith officiating. Graveside services will be Monday January 28, 2013 at 1:30 pm in the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville.
