Mr. Lee Wingard Norman Jr., age 92 of Wartburg, passed away Friday, March 5, 2021 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, in Knoxville. He was born March 30,1929, in Houston, Texas, the son of Lee W. Norman Sr and Pearl Rose Phillips Norman. Mr. Norman retired from the Houston Metro Bus Lines after many years of service as a Driver. He attended Wartburg First Baptist Church, and hated to miss a Sunday. He loved traveling with Eternal Heart gospel music group, for over 10 years. His favorite past-times were fishing and attending car shows with his son and grandsons all over the state of Texas and Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Lucille Nelson Norman of Humble, TX, his son Michael Lynn Barnette of Humble, Texas and sister Betty Partridge of Matagorda, Texas.
He is survived by his sons, Lee Wingard Norman III, of Wartburg and Gary Barnette and wife Judy Barnette of Lancing.
Five grandchildren: Kathy and Emiliano Cavazos of San Antonio, TX, Tammy and Jimmy Lee Giles of Oliver Springs, Roy and Heather Barnette of Wartburg, Keith and Carolynn Barnette of San Antonio, TX and Shelley Kennedy of Wartburg.
Eleven great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and very special family friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and faithful friend, who always had a kind smile on his face, and will be missed by all who knew him.
Due to Covid-19 limits and restrictions in place, the family will be having a private Military Service at the Knoxville National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials in his name be made to The American Legion Post 149, 202 South Kingston Street, Wartburg, TN 37887.
