Larry Dean Wilson

Mr. Larry Wilson, blessed for 68 years, departed this life Tuesday May 10, 2016 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He accepted Christ at an early age and went on to serve Him as an ordained deacon and a member of the singing group, Lamplighter Quartette. Larry was also a member of Pilot Mountain Missionary Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Wartburg Central High School Class of 1966 and a veteran of the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Lawrence and the USS Richard E. Byrd. He was graduate of Sam Houston State University in Criminal Justice and went on to become a deputy sheriff in San Jancinto County, Texas. His passion for adventure allowed him the pursuit of travel as a long haul truck driver for many years. Larry was able to travel all over 48 states and neighboring Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer and Vada G. Wilson. One sister: Lisa Wilson. One brother: Michael "Butch" Wilson. And his daughter-in-law: Ashley N. Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 40 years: Josephine "Jo" Shannon Wilson. His daughter: Leigh Ann Wilson both of Wartburg. His son: Shannon Dean Wilson of Livingston, TX. Two grandsons: Caleb Garrett Wilson and Brendan Dean Wilson. One granddaughter: Haley Nicole Wilson. Two sisters and brothers-in-law: Carol and Gary Eicher of Wartburg and Joy Nell and Dennis Longmire of LaFollette. Two brothers and a sister-in-law: Roger Elmer Wilson of Dalton, GA and Allyn and Belia Wilson of Clinton. Along with several nieces, nephews and other family, friends and loved ones. The family will receive friends Saturday May 14, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Davis Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Charles Webb and Pastor Josh Baldwin officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Sunbright Cemetery with military honors.
