Mr. John Randolph Rogers, Sr., age 88 of Harriman, passed away Saturday January 26, 2013 at NHC Healthcare in Athens. John was born January 31, 1925 in Kingston to the late Rufus and Mae Rogers. He was retired from Martin Marietta in Oak Ridge. John served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He faithfully served the church as a deacon and misic leader for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years: Mary Frost Rogers. His second wife of 19 years: Agnes Lucille Cole Rogers. One daughter: Wanda June Rogers. Three brothers: Tom, Rufus and Don Rogers. Two sisters: Mary Frank Poland and Louise Phillip.
He is survived by two sons: Dr. John R. Rogers, Jr and his wife Marlena of Indianapolis, IN and Roy E. Rogers and his wife Gail of Athens. Five step-children: William R. Smith, Gary L. Smith, Barbara Smith, David Lewis and Lori Adamski. Two brothers: E.J. Rogers of LaPorte, IN and Bob Rogers of Waltersboro, SC. Three grandchildren: Lura and Jeff Hawkins, Tony and Monica Rogers and Jason Rogers. Eight great grandchildren: Garret and Griffin Hawkins, Jake, Kate and Caroline Rogers, Cole, Emma and Jacob Rogers.
The family will receive friends Tuesday January 29, 2013 at Davis Funeral Home, Harriman from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM with Dr. John R. Rogers, Jr., Rev. Bob Gamble and Rev. Glen Leffew officiating. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday in Emory Heights Cemetery.
