Rev. John L. McCormick, Jr., age 83 of Harriman, went to be with the Lord on April 3, 2014 after a long struggle with cancer. John was a minister of the gospel for 52 years and had pastored many churches in Roane, Morgan, and Cumberland Counties. His greatest joy was to witness about the salvation message and never missed an opportunity to do so. His latest message was presented from his hospice bed, where he never complained but, told anyone who would listen to the story of Jesus. He was preceded in death by wife of 62 years: Allene McCormick. His parents: John L. Sr. and Gracie Potter McCormick. Two brothers: George Correl and August McCormick. He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law: Diane & David Mayton. Granddaughters: Christy Harrison & husband Tony and Claudia Baber & husband Chris. Four grand children: Tyler and David Gresham, Emma Baber and Madie Harrison. Also 2 additional great grand daughters by marriage: Kaylyn Hayes and husband Cory and Savanna Smith. Two brothers: Charles and Christopher McCormick. Three sisters: Geneva Potter, Helena Nelson and Juanita McCormick. Two special sisters-in-law: Orba Welch and husband Jack, Clata Perry and husband James and a special brother-in-law, Gene Allred and wife Joyce. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday April 5, 2014 from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM at Swan Pond Baptist Church in Harriman. A Celebration service will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. Larry Tilley and Bro. Vic Davis officiating and Tony Harrison leading the music. Interment will follow in Swan Pond Cemetery. The family invites all of those who knew and loved "Bro. John" to come celebrate and praise the Lord he loved. John McCormick's hope was in the gospel that said, "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief." I Timothy 1:15.
