Glenna Mae Davis Adkisson

Mrs. Glenna Mae Davis Adkisson, age 88 of the midtown community passed away Friday October 30, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. She was a long time resident of the Midtown community in Roane County. Mrs. Adkisson was a beloved mother, wife, daughter and sister. She will be greatly missed but lovingly remembered. She was born May 7, 1927 in Newcastle, Indiana to Lester Davis and Mattie Alice Hay, both natives of Kentucky who had moved north to seek employment. They returned to the Keno community of Pulaski county Kentucky where she was raised along with seven siblings, having many happy childhood memories. In 1945 she worked in the war effort at a defense industry factory in Newcastle while living with relatives. On June 26, 1946 she married Paul E. Adkisson in Harriman, Tennessee, and they lived, from 1951, in the Midtown community. She assisted her husband in his work as a Baptist minister as well as helping in the family business as her husband was also a cabinetmaker. She was always first a loving, dedicated mother and wife, and had a strong Christian faith. Her interests included reading, gardening, birdwatching, and trips to the beach. Visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren and also cooking for her family were always special to her. She was preceded in death by her husband: Paul E. Adkisson Her parents: Lester and Mattie Alice Hay Davis One brother: Russell Davis One step grandson: Travis Farmer One step great grandson: Peyton Farmer Three brothers in law: Floyd Stout, Jay Nunn, and Ed Tallant Two sisters in law: Gladys Tallant and Jo Anne Davis And two nieces: Kathy Davis and Christine Cagley She is survived by her daughter: Linda Brown & Bill of Harriman Three sons: David & Martha, Jerry, and Tim & Tina Adkisson all of Midtown Three brothers: Bill Davis & Jewell of Newcastle, IN, Homer Davis & Carolyn, and Charles Davis & Lorena both of Pulaski County, KY. Three sisters: Genalea Nunn of Newcastle, IN, Shirley Stout, and Faye & Russell Stout both of Pulaski County, KY Two grandsons: David Adkisson Jr. and Jacob Adkisson Three granddaughters: Jeanette Conner, Lindsay Brown, and Tasha Adkisson Four great grandchildren: Bryson and Haley Conner and Mary and Jenny Adkisson One brother in law: Lester Adkisson & Jo Two sisters in law: Beulah Copeland and Audrey Bell One special longtime friend: Betty Brackett A friend: Betty Kirkland And a host of other nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. The family would like to thank Dr. Miriam Tedder and staff, Dr. J. Christopher Scott, Nurse Lisa and all the staff of Amedisys Hospice, and also pharmacist Paula Margrave for their care and support. The family will receive friends Tuesday November 3, 2015 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Davis Funeral Home, Harriman. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Paul Davis officiating. The interment will follow the funeral service in the Roane Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a gift be sent to East Tennessee Children's Hospital at P.O.
