Mrs. Effie Martha Riggs, age 88 of Harriman, passed away Monday April 8, 2013 at The Bridge at Rockwood where she has been a resident for the last 6 years. She has been a member of South Harriman Baptist Church for 45 years. Effie had worked at Burlington Hosiery Mill in Harriman and also as a CNA at Rockwood General Hospital until her retirement.
She has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and to reunite with her husband of 60 years: Clyde Riggs. Her parents: James and Lassie Pierce. Three sisters and brothers-in-law: Edna and Dallas Keeney, Edith and Woodrow Woody, Helen and Jimmy Wicks. And a brother-in-law: Wallace Ferguson.
She leaves behind her twin sister: Ethel Ferguson of Harriman. Two sons and a daughter-in-law: Gary L. Riggs and Daniel and Mary Jane Riggs of Rockwood. Three grandchildren and their spouses: Sean and Yvonne Riggs of Bowie, MD, Amanda Riggs of Knoxville and Matthew and Whitney Riggs of Arlington, VA. One great granddaughter: Monica Jones of Knoxville and several nieces and nephews, her friends from church and all the staff at The Bridge at Rockwood who were very good in keeping her comfortable in her last days.
The family will receive friends Thursday April 11, 2013 at Davis Funeral Home, Harriman from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral service follow at 8:00 PM with Bro. Kenny Isham officiating. Graveside services will be Friday morning at 11:00 AM in Roane Memorial Gardens, Rockwood.
