Clifford Joe Griffis

Mr. Clifford Joe Hendricks Griffis, age 69, went home to heaven Tuesday June 28, 2016. He fought a long battle with Pancreatic - Bone Cancer. Joe was born June 29, 1946 in Ashe Cabin Hollow in South Harriman. He was a hard worker from the time he was 10 years old, helping his dad with lumbering and hauling coal. Joe was a dedicated husband and father. He worked at several jobs in Tennessee, Indiana and Georgia, and operated two small businesses in Roane County: Griffis Small Engine Repair and Joe Griffis Excavating and Hauling. He was saved as a young man at Childs Memorial Baptist Church and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William D. "Pet" and Cecile R. Brewster Griffis. Grandparents: Jim and Julie Milsaps Griffis, George H. and Ada Parks Brewster. His mother and father-in-law: Jim and Edna Taylor. Brothers-in-law: Bill Unger, Tom Fulks, Raymond Isbill, Tony Taylor and C.J. Potter. Sisters-in-law: Eva Taylor Isbill, Alene Taylor Griffis, Linda Thomas Griffis and Carol Eynoe Taylor.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years: Helen Anita Taylor Griffis. Two daughters and sons-in-law: Kim and Charlie Jones and Kay and Michael Rayburn. One son: Kenneth Joe Griffis. His grandchildren: Corey and Jessica Jones, Cole Jones and Claire Rayburn. Great grandchildren: Quinn and Reece Jones. Four sisters and two brothers-in-law: Bonnie Fulks, Reba and Paul Bruse, Madge and Frank Taylor and Glen Ella Unger. Three brothers and sisters-in-law: Gene and Marcella Griffis, Levi and Joyce Griffis and David and Carol Griffis. One aunt: Lois Griffis. A sister-in-law: Marsha Porter. A cousin and brother-in-law: Clarence "Bo" Griffis. And many wonderful, loving nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday June 30, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Liberty Baptist Church, Kingston. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM with Pastor Randy Griffis and Pastor Danny Thomas officiating. Graveside services will be Friday morning at 10:00 AM in Swan Pond Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Darrell Griffis officiating.
