Mr. Cecil Wayne Baker, age 73 of Harriman, went home to be with his heavenly father on Monday, May 13, 2013 following a lengthy illness and some time at Park West Hospital in Knoxville, followed by a brief stay at Renaissance Terrace Nursing Home in Harriman.
Wayne and his wife, Irene Boles Baker, resided in Midtown. He was a member of the Harriman Church of Christ. He was a retired pipefitter from the Tennessee Valley Authority and worked many years at the Kingston Steam Plant. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving primarily in Germany.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Victor Lee and Jewel Leon Baker of Harriman. And grandparents: D.G. and Susie Baker of Cleveland and Clyde and Lena Hearn of Chattanooga.
He is survived by his wife: Irene Boles Baker of Midtown. One daughter: Rene Baker of Kingston. One brother: Jerry Baker and wife, Becky of Athens. One sister: Beverly Baker Casteel and husband, Bob of Knoxville. One nephew: Lee Baker and wife, Pam of Knoxville. Five nieces: Melanie Baker Nichols and husband, Rob of Paris, TN; Lisa Lane and husband, Michael of Knoxville; Marla Hensley and husband, Dennis of Knoxville; Diana Dal Zotto of Stone Mountain, GA; and Rhonda Treaster of Crossville. And a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday May 16, 2013 at Davis Funeral Home, Harriman from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Minister, Freeman Hicks, of the Harriman Church of Christ and Minister, Howard Scott, of the South Harriman Church of God of Prophecy officiating. The graveside service will follow in the Willard Park Cemetery in South Harriman.
In lieu flowers, the family request donations be made in Wayne's memory to either the Harriman Church of Christ, the South Harriman Church of God of Prophecy, the American Lung Association, the American Heart Association, or the East Tennessee Kidney Foundation.
