Mr. Bernard Arnold "Bernie" Fisher, age 81, of Lancing, passed away Monday February 17, 2025, at his home. Bernie was a 1961 graduate of Lima Senior High School in Lima, OH. He attended Findlay University; he earned an associate's degree in business management from the University of Northwestern Ohio and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in international business management from Ohio Wesleyan University. Bernie joined the Army in 1966 and retired in 2000 as a Lieutenant Colonel. During his distinguished military career, Bernie attended Officer Candidate School, Infantry Officers Basic Course, Engineer Officers Advanced Course, and Command and General Staff College. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal twice, four Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, the Armed Forces Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal three times, National Defense Medal twice, the Southwest Asia Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, NATO Medal, Korea Defense Medal, The Liberation of Kuwait Medal (Saudi Arabia) and The Liberation of Kuwait Medal (Kuwait). Throughout his career, he served in Korea, Saudia Arabia, Kuwait, Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia, and various locations within the United States. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, as well as a life member of the Elks Lodge, VFW Post 1275 both in Lima, OH, the US Army Officer Candidate School Alumni, US Army Engineer Regiment, and the Military Officers Association. He was also a member of American Legion Post 149 in Wartburg.


He was preceded in death by his parents: Arnold W. and Catherine Kakascik Fisher.

His first wife: Carla J. Fisher.

And one brother: Joseph A. Fisher.


He is survived by his wife of 14 years: Nellie Buxton Fisher.

His children: Bradley A. Fisher and wife Mary, and Raquel R. Frost and Husband David.

His sister-in-law: Mildred "Millie" Fisher.

His stepchildren: Donald Bell, Jr. and wife Angie, Donnell Steele and husband Keith, and Janell Chenoweth and husband Mike.

Eleven grandchildren: Luke and Caleb Fisher, Carson and Lydia Frost, Jacob, Jesse, Cody, and Jennifer Bell, Josh and Adam Soles, and Carson Allen.


Lt. Col. Fisher will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. All other services will be announced as soon as they become available.
