Mr. Basil Maynard Human, Jr., 95 years and 8 months, went to be with his Heavenly Father on March 9, 2025. He passed peacefully at the Select Specialty Hospital in Powell, Tennessee. The last few weeks of his life were a celebration as many friends and family took time to visit with Maynard and share memories.
Maynard was preceded in death by his parents Basil Maynard and Fannie Alice (Clark) Human; his wife, Alice; and his brothers and sisters Carl, Mildred, Margie, Earl, Betty, Kenneth, Anna May, and Ruby Lea.
Maynard precedes in death his sister Mary Helen and brother Bill, his sons Basil and Gary, and grandson Christopher.
Maynard defined his life by his three Loves.... his love of God, his love of his Family, and his love for the game of Golf. He was a longtime member and deacon at South Harriman Baptist Church; he was married to Alice for more than sixty-nine years at the time of her passing; and he was a member of the Emory Golf and Country Club in Harriman for 71 years, where he taught and mentored many young golfers. He worked at the Emory Golf and Country Club early in life where he helped build and maintain the golf course. Afterwards, he worked at Roane Hosiery. He was proud to say that he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He survived his time in Korea and returned to marry Alice on a warm June day at her family's home in Oakdale, Tennessee. There was no doubt he was crazy about Alice because he would drive from Missouri to see Alice in Oakdale just about every weekend when he was stationed there.
Maynard's family will receive friends at South Harriman Baptist Church on Friday, March 14th from noon until 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm at the church with the graveside service following at Roane Memorial Gardens at 3:00 pm.
The family wants to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Roane County Family Practice and Roane Medical Center for the excellent care that they provided; Fresenius Dialysis, both at the Midtown Clinic and at the Roane Medical Center, by providing him quality of life for a year and a half through their excellent care; and Select Specialty Hospital in Powell, Tennessee, as they provided kind and loving care to Maynard during his final days. A special thank you to his caregiver Jennifer with Senior Helpers of Knoxville for her kind and compassionate care. The family also wants to extend their gratitude to the members of the South Harriman Baptist Church who visited with Maynard when he was home bound, brought meals, and assisted with dialysis transportation.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Roane State Community College golf team, South Harriman Baptist Church or the National Kidney Foundation.
Davis Funeral Home, Harriman, is honored to serve the family of Mr. Basil Maynard Human, Jr during this time.
